The European Law Students’ Association (ELSA) is hereby issuing the Call for the Host of the Regional Rounds of the 23rd edition of the John H. Jackson Moot Court Competition taking place between late February and early April 2025!
We are looking for hosts among universities, student associations or NGOs interested in international trade law and the right infrastructure to provide a successful Round.
Factors that will be considered in evaluating bids are:
- The location should be secure and easily accessible for the participants and Panellists (including the ease of obtaining visas, if required);
- Demonstrated ability to manage the logistical and administrative aspects of a Moot Court Competitions or similar academic events (conferences, symposia).
In particular,
- The host must have a plan for covering costs of accommodation, meals, opening and award ceremony, sponsors reception and pleading rooms from participant fees and independent fundraising.
- The host must have the ability to manage publicizing the Regional Round to all eligible universities and institutions and communicate with the teams that register to participate in the competition.
- Ability to manage the selection of Panellists as well as the logistics of their participation – including transportation, accommodation, and meals during the competition. Panellists must be international trade law academics or practitioners and may include teaching staff from the host. The EMC2 Academic Board will provide guidance on potential Panellists and the WTO is likely to sponsor at least one WTO official to serve as a Panellist.
- Demonstrated commitment to the study of international economic law or international dispute resolution through inter alia courses in the host school’s curriculum or past participation of teams from the host in the EMC2.
Host candidates must provide the following documents:
- A motivation letter
- A draft budget (see template)
- A draft agenda including any social or academic programming (see template)
- A draft timetable for achieving certain milestones in the planning of the round (see template)
Factors the candidate should consider in making its bid:
- ELSA International will manage the registration of all teams and convey that information to the selected Regional Round organizer
ELSA International create a subpage for the appointed organizer on the www.elsamootcourt.org website as well as with needed templates and branded materials in a form of an Organizational Kit. - The appointed organizer will work closely with the Member of the Academic Board/Member of the ELSA International and have regular contact with them updating on the work of finding Panellists, sponsors, venues, etc.
- The appointed organizer is required to send monthly updates to ELSA International based on provided template, detailing progress with logistical arrangements, selecting Panellists, and with finances.
- The Regional Round Organizer is fully responsible for fundraising of the event and collecting the participation fee from participating teams, which partially covers expenses. However, ELSA International is able to provide financial assistance up to 2.000EUR per host upon successful reporting of such a need.
- The Asia-Pacific and All America Regional Round will be divided after the preliminary rounds into two Rounds. therefore, the Host needs to be prepared to organize double amount of semi-finals and two Gand Finals happening at the same time.
- The African Regional Round receives suport from ELSA International when it comes to fundraising. All participating Panellists are self-funded and the Organizer is not covering their accommodation and travel costs.
